Otters Plunder 2023: Our Award-Winning English Rosé

June 2, 2026Marie Morley

Every month we shine a light on one of our wines, and for June it has to be Otters Plunder 2023. This dry English rosé, made from Rondo grapes grown right here in Lincolnshire, has a habit of winning people over, often when they least expect it. Red cherry, raspberry and a touch of rose petal, with a Silver award to its name.

Joy in the unexpected – our award-winning English rosé

Some of the best things in life turn up when you least expect them. A river otter sliding into view on a quiet afternoon. A wine that quietly picks up a silver medal. A bottle opened to mark a moment that mattered. That spirit of happy surprise is exactly what Otters Plunder is all about, which is why we’ve chosen it as our Wine of the Month.

If you’ve not met it yet, allow us to introduce you.

A proper English rosé, made just down the road

Otters Plunder 2023 is a dry rosé made from Rondo, a grape variety you’ll often find growing in English vineyards. Rondo is a hardy sort, well suited to our cooler, less-than-predictable British weather, and it’s known for giving wines lovely bright red-fruit character. In Otters Plunder’s case, that translates into a rosé with real depth of colour and plenty to say for itself.

It’s grown, made and bottled right here at Wressle, in North Lincolnshire. About as local as a glass of wine gets.

What’s in the glass

This is a deeper-hued rosé with an expressive, inviting nose. Expect red cherry, cranberry and raspberry, lifted by delicate hints of rose petal, peach and a subtle creamy note. The palate is dry and fresh, with crisp acidity and a lightly textured mouthfeel, and those bright red fruits carry right through to a balanced, clean finish with good length and a touch of softness.

In short: refreshing, food-friendly and very easy to enjoy in the sunshine.

One of our range of award winning wines

Otters Plunder 2023 was awarded a Silver at the Midlands & North Regional Wine Challenge 2024, hosted at Carlton Towers near Selby. For a small, family-run vineyard, having one of our wines recognised alongside the region’s producers means rather a lot. We didn’t expect it, which feels entirely fitting for a wine named after a creature that turns up when you’re least expecting it.

What to drink it with

Otters Plunder is a brilliant all-rounder at the table. It pairs beautifully with:

  • Charcuterie and antipasti boards
  • Grilled salmon
  • Summer berries and lighter puddings
  • Mediterranean dishes

Or, frankly, a sunny afternoon and good company. No food required.
